LOS ANGELES – Justin Bieber and Steve Carell joined a star-studded lineup, including Hockey Hall of Famers Rob Blake, Mark Messier, Cammi Granato, and Jeremy Roenick, for a special charity event on Sunday afternoon. The “Skate for LA Strong” event, held at Crypto.com Arena, aimed to raise funds for relief efforts following the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.
The event was organized by the Los Angeles Kings and the National Hockey League (NHL) to support the rebuilding process after the catastrophic Palisades Fire, one of the most destructive in Los Angeles history.
“We’re here to have a great time and show that when we come together, good things happen,” Bieber said.
The four-team exhibition tournament was spearheaded by Hockey Hall of Famer and Kings President Luc Robitaille. “We’ve all been affected by what happened last month,” Robitaille noted. “Whether it’s friends, family, or neighbors, this tragedy has touched many lives. Our goal is to make a difference and raise as much as we can.”
The team coached by actors Vince Vaughn and Cobie Smulders won both of its games, securing the tournament title. Jeremy Roenick had a standout performance, scoring two goals before engaging in a playful on-ice moment with Bieber.

“This event is a fantastic celebration of hockey and the first responders,” said Roenick. “Seeing everyone come together, including LA firefighters playing on the ice, is truly inspiring.”
Other teams were led by celebrities like Will Ferrell, Snoop Dogg, Danny DeVito, Al Michaels, Hannah Stocking, and Andrew Whitworth. Actor Skylar Astin, a Malibu resident, shared his appreciation for the firefighters’ efforts. “I didn’t hesitate when the Kings asked me to join. I may have never worn skates before, but this was where I needed to be.”
The event aired locally in Los Angeles and nationally on ESPN2. Instead of traditional ticket sales, passes were distributed to first responders and those displaced by the fires. The Los Angeles Kings confirmed that 12,167 fans attended the event, making it a major success in supporting wildfire relief efforts.
